Sports and Sports Premium

What is Sports Premium?

The Government provides funding to schools on an annual basis to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. The funding is being jointly provided by the Department of Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

We receive £16,000 + £10 per pupil year 1-6 (as per DfE Autumn Census) and is split across financial years.

For the 2022/23 academic year our P.E. and Sport Premium is based on 56 pupils with an allocation of £16,560

For the 2023/24 academic year our PE and Sport Premium is based on 37 pupils with an allocation of £16,370

We use the premium to secure improvements in the following 5 indicators:

  • providing targeted activities and support to involve and encourage the least active children.

  • encouraging active play during break and lunchtimes

  • establishing, extending or funding attendance of school sport clubs and activities.

  • adopting an active mile initiative

  • raising attainment in primary school swimming to meet requirements of the national curriculum before the end of KS2, so that every child leaving primary school is able to swim.

Codelivery of PE lessons through the Vale Royal School Sportsd Partnership, funded by the PE grant, has proved extremely successful and will continue to run due to its success. Teachers have benefitted from observing specialist staff delivering PE to their classes then using those new skills to deliver high quality lessons. This high quality service which supports high participation in PE and Sport. The Vale Royal Sports partnership plan, organise and deliver a huge range of activities, competitions, training and subject leadership advice. In order to sustain this participation, we will continue to pay for this service.

This year, through the Vale Royal School Sport Partnership and Vale Royal School Sport Strategy Group our children have competed and participated in a number of sporting opportunities and indoor sportshall events against other local Primary Schools.

After School Sports Clubs

Our School Football team, coached by our UEFA B Licenced Football Coach,  have also competed in a number of matches organised against other local Primary Schools and won the 5 Parishes Village Cup. All KS2 children have the opportunity to take part in After School Sports Club funded through the P.E. and Sport Premium Grant.  Through participation the sustained impact will see children at Crowton Christ Church primary School take part in more sporting and physical activities and become more competitive n the future.

We have purchased scooters and safety equipment for our After School Club to encourage children to be active outside of school hours.

The Sports Grant has enabled us to purchase extra equipment to offer a wider variety of Sports to our pupils, as well as subsidise transport costs to take pupils to and from sporting competitions. All children are given opportunities to compete against other local primary schools within our school cluster, at Weaverham High School.

We have been able to hire a dedicated sports coach to deliver high quality PE lessons to develop and enhance skills and knowledge and encourage participation amongst all children through the funding.

Throughout the year our Year 5’s  have received training to enable them to become Sports Ambassadors and Phys Kids representatives, which encourages more children to participate in PE activities at lunchtime. The training has been provided by Weaverham High School PE teacher, Mr Finney, who visits school.

62% of children at Crowton Christ Church Primary school regularly attend PE/Sport activities that include Swimming, Judo, Tennis, Ice Hockey, Dance, Horse riding, Basketball, Rugby and Athletics. Being such a small school we often lack the correct number of children for teams in competitions. With our allocated PE money we can offer clubs available and the sustained impact will see children at Crowton Christ Church Primary attending an increased number of competitions and become more competitive in the future.

Swimming

For the 2023/24 academic year, all pupils within our Year 6 cohort are meeting the National Curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m. Pupils can use a range of strokes effectively and can perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
